A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to dedicate Maddie at our church. To us, that means that we made a public proclamation that we want to raise Maddie to know the Lord and it is also a way to ask our church community to come along side us as we seek to do that.
The verse that we chose for Maddie is Psalm 27:14, "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." As many of you know (and as we shared at church), building our family was not easy. We went down a much longer and different road than we anticipated. God took us through the adoption process and blessed us with our son, Elijah. And then, He chose to surprise us with a pregnancy through which we were blessed with Maddie. Psalm 27:14 reminds us that God is sovereign, His plan is perfect and He will fulfill His plans for us in His perfect timing.
John and I were glad that we put thought and prayer into the dedication prior to the actual service at church. Because, as you might imagine, it is quite difficult to keep a 15 mo old and a 2 1/2 yr old standing nicely in front of the church for any length of time. I think there's a reason that most people dedicate their children before they can walk! :) As you can see from this picture, Eli was "dancing" and I have pursed lips as I'm trying to quietly keep him in line in front of the church. For those that were in attendance, I'm sure it was quite amusing. :)
We are so thankful that we have a church community that prays for us and encourages us to raise our children to know God. By the way, did you know that we dedicated Eli when we were in TX on Father's Day when he was just 2 weeks old? (check it out!)

It was a wonderful dedication and both Eli and Maddie made it even more special with their pure joy at being in front of the church. God was really showing off when he created your family. We love you.
